FreeSmartSoft’s Google Books Downloader provides you with a simple and straightforward solution to downloading e-books from Google Books. It puts together in a single PDF document all the downloaded pages, while giving you also the possibility of saving each page individually as a PNG or JPG image file.
The program has a simple one-window interface with two main buttons – one to load the URL of the book in question from the Windows clipboard, and a second one to download the book. Thus, you will need to navigate to Google Books first using your browser in order to locate and copy to the clipboard the URL of the book you are interested in. (Regrettably, the program comes with no searching capabilities.) Then click on the “Paste URL” button and wait until Google Books Downloader grabs all the necessary information about the book. In time, you will be shown a thumbnail of the book’s cover and a brief synopsis of the work (if available), while the program patiently waits for you to press on the “Download” button. The download process itself is fairly fast (subject to the speed of your Internet connection), but the results are somehow irregular. Those books that can only be partially previewed in Google Books will produce very small PDF files, containing but a fraction of the pages you are allowed to read online. However, those e-books that are available for download from Google Books will be downloaded in full. But then again, who needs an extra piece of software to download books that are already available for download from the original site? The only reason I can think of is the possibility of having the pages of those books as PNG or JPG images without using a third-party converter.
Either way, the limitations of this Google Books downloader clearly outnumber its capabilities, some of which are already available in Google Books.
- Simplicity of use
- Builds a single PDF file containing all the pages of the book
- You cannot customize the output quality
- Downloads one book at a time
